Mary's Legacy

Mary touched so many of our lives here at Merrill Lynch which is why we were stunned to learn of her sudden passing on November 11, 2012. Whether it was helping colleagues with career advice or agreeing to support another community service project, we knew she lived by the motto, "To whom much is given, much is expected."

In fact, earlier on that November day, Mary had been at a Girl Scout meeting. She was lending her leadership as a board member because she believed deeply that Girl Scouts helps girls become independent, financially successful civic and business leaders.

In particular, she was passionate about supporting the organization's financial literacy initiative that prepares girls to one day achieve their dreams of running a business, supporting a family and owning a home.

You Can Help

It is in her memory that I am asking her colleagues to participate in a heartwarming project that honors her spirit by making a meaningful contribution. There are two ways you can do that.

Make a contribution to the Girl Scouts Financial Literacy Center that will be created in memory of Mary. We like making money on money. How does a 2:1 match sound to you?

Donate Now

Thank you for participating in this effort to share inspirational memories of Mary with others, and for continuing her commitment to enrich the lives of girls through Girl Scouting.

Our Mission

  • COURAGE

Our movement is based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).

It is the GSLE in which girls discover themselves, connect with others and take action to make the world a better place. >>
  • CONFIDENCE

Half the women in the U.S. today were Girl Scouts at some point in their lives.

Our alumnae display significantly more positive life outcomes: a higher sense of self, education and income levels. >>
  • CHARACTER

We help girls develop positive values and become active, responsible leaders in our communities.

It is through service to others that valuable leadership skills and personal growth is gained.>>
